'Painting with thread'
There is a special sense of place being between the water and the land, whether it is on the coast or up a small river creek.
The sea walls, saltings and marshlands of the East Coast are areas of rare wilderness with a unique tranquility and timeless quality.
There is a depth of colour and texture to the sea walls which change throughout the seasons
Taking inspiration from the light and colours of the East Anglian coast Tors hand dyes fabrics to obtain the subtle and natural colours needed for the backgound.
Small pieces of fabric are gradually layered to recreate the beautiful colours of the marshlands, saltings or seascapes.
She then uses her sewing machine to add the details and texture of the marshland plants .
Finally she hand stitches the foreground to capture the gentle movement of the grasses. |
